:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FEATURES ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
1. Acquiring Pictures
Typically, the first thing you usually do after taking pictures is to download them to your computer. Zoner Photo Studio makes it easy to acquire photos from a digital camera, as well as pictures and images from a variety of sources including scanners, web galleries, cell phones, and other sources…even the Windows clipboard!
Support for All Digital Cameras
Zoner Photo Studio supports the downloading of pictures from all types of digital cameras. Zoner Photo Studio supports not only cameras and memory card readers that present themselves as Mass Storage devices, but also all devices that can use the WIA (Windows Image Acquisition)* interface, such as Canon cameras.
Zoner Photo Studio saves you time! Zoner Photo Studio can be set to start up right when you plug your camera in to your PC: take advantage of the thumbnails produced by your camera and see your pictures faster than ever before. You'll get started with your organization workflow right away, since Zoner Photo Studio can attach information about who took the picture to your pictures as they are downloaded. Zoner Photo Studio can even automatically sort your photos into folders according to data you specify.
*) Note: On some camera models, it may be necessary to activate PTP Transfer in order to take advantage of WIA.
Scanning Pictures
Thanks to support for the TWAIN interface (the standard for linking applications and image acquisition devices like scanners), you can scan directly into Zoner Photo Studio – regardless of the scanner you are using. It’s even easy to connect a scanner that supports batch scanning.
Using Windows Clipboard
Sometimes, the Windows Clipboard is the best or only way to acquire a picture or an image. Zoner Photo Studio can open the Clipboard’s contents so that you can view, edit and save the image – all without having to use multiple programs.
Screen Capture
With Zoner Photo Studio, you can also acquire pictures through a screen capture. Capture and work with the current contents of the screen or a selected part of the screen. This feature is very handy for sending exact information about what you see on the screen: for example, when sending information to technical support staff to document a problem you are having. It is also useful for the creation of documentation and letters, or when you need to quickly acquire a specific graphic element from a website.
With Zoner Photo Studio, you can automatically save a series of screen captures as separate files, indicating whether or not to capture the mouse cursor, or limiting the screen capture to a specific element such as an icon or feature button on the screen.
Batch Downloads from the Web
The Download from Web Site function is able to save all the pictures located on a specified Web address, such as a Web gallery or a page on MySpace(TM). With Zoner Photo Studio, you can select how deep within the website it will search, the format and type of pictures to download, and picture size (which can be useful to avoid thumbnails, ads and other unwanted content). Zoner Photo Studio can even use login information to log into a page to access desired photos.
Acquiring from RAW
One way to acquire digital photos is via conversion (sometimes called "developing") from files in the RAW format. RAW files, also called digital negatives, contain unprocessed picture data straight from the camera sensors. Zoner Photo Studio supports RAW conversion from more than 150 digital camera models.
Zoner Photo Studio offers you all picture acquisition functions in one place: the Browser's Acquire menu. In the Editor or Viewer, you can also open pictures using the traditional Open command in the File menu. Zoner Photo Studio fully supports drag and drop functionality, so you can also just drag a picture into Zoner Photo Studio with the mouse.
2. Editing and Effects
Remove minor defects, adjust photo exposure and color levels, add creative effects - with Zoner Photo Studio you'll make the picture just right.
Editing photos
Get the best results with the right tools for improving photos.
- Quick Fix
The Quick Fix tool in Zoner Photo Studio is the easiest and fastest way to improve your photos. With no manual settings required, just one click of the mouse will get you great results.
- Levels
The Levels tool is a powerful tool for manually working with photo histograms, and is one of the most-used functions for optimizing color levels in photos.
- Curves
The Curves tool allows you to manually make high precision edits to exposure and color toning levels.
- Enhancing Colors
The Enhance Colors window includes tools for RGB channel mixing, along with hue, saturation, lightness, brightness, contrast, and gamma correction settings.
- Shadow Brightening
Shadow brightening is a special editing tool for bringing out the details in the dark areas of a picture. It is great for repairing shadow-detail problems in pictures containing both very bright and very dark areas.
- Adjusting Color Temperature
With Zoner Photo Studio, you can adjust a picture’s color temperature by fine-tuning the color balance of a photo taken in color-changing conditions, such as photos taken on hazy hot summer days.
- Sharpening
The Sharpening tool accentuates indistinct transitions on the edges of objects that often cause a blurred impression in the picture.
- Blurring
The Blurring tool carefully smoothens overly "hard" edges by blurring them slightly.
Removing picture defects
In photography, there are some situations that make it difficult to get the perfect shot. These include problems due to the physical limitations of cameras as well as difficulties in setting up some shots. With Zoner Photo Studio, you'll get the picture looking just right.
- Noise Removal
Zoner Photo Studio makes it easy to get rid of noise, or picture graininess, which is a common problem in digital photography and also occurs often when scanning pictures.
- Chromatic Aberration Removal
The chromatic aberration tool removes the unpleasant colored (usually purple) fringe that can occur around the edges of objects.
- Interlacing
When obtaining photos from videos, the output often look like a series of horizontal lines that are actually two "half-pictures" inside each picture. A picture like this is not at all desirable. The Interlacing function eliminates the lines and produces a standard photo.
- Vignetting
Vignetting appears due to unevenness in the exposure of a photo at the edges of the photo compared to the center. Vignetting primarily appears on pictures copied with scanners and pictures taken with a strong zoom or with long exposure times.
- Collinearity
Issues involving collinearity most frequently plague architectural photos, where perspective causes tall objects to appear as if they are converging the further they are from you. Zoner Photo Studio allows you to get everything straight!
- Editing Perspective
The Perspective tool repairs deformation caused by perspective issues with pictures taken at skewed angles.
Retouching tools
Retouching tools are great for correcting minor defects and for putting the finishing touches on your pictures.
- Red Eye Reduction
"Red eye" is a common problem that appears whenever a flash is used in photography. The resulting "red eyes" can easily be corrected with the Red Eye reduction tool.
- Clone Stamp
The Clone Stamp tool is used to retouch photos in order to remove unwanted elements (such as marks caused by a scratched lens, or objects in the shot that distract from the subject, etc.).
- Iron
The Iron tool is used for smoothing out fine details, such as on someone’s cheek in a portrait photograph.
- Paintbrush
The Paintbrush tool is convenient for minor color touch-ups: the color is selected from one area in the photo and "dragged" to the desired spot with the mouse.
- Fills
The Fills tool is useful for "filling in" a selected area with a new color.
- Effect Brush
The Effect Brush is made for local edits to brightness and contrast, gamma correction, saturation, and sharpening—simply "brush on" the changes using a mouse or tablet.
Creative effects

- Rotating Photos
Tools for rotating photos, especially between Portrait and Landscape orientation, are among the most basic and most-used photo tools.
- Aligning Horizons
Aligning horizons (as well as aligning verticals) visually with the help of a guideline is the quickest way to fix pictures spoiled by an inadvertently tilted camera, or skewed pages on a scanner.
- Mirroring and Flipping
When mirroring an image of a photo, you create a mirror image around its horizontal or vertical axis.
- Cropping
Photo cropping is an important tool when editing picture composition, changing the ratio of length to height, or even cutting selective parts of a picture.
- Resizing
Resizing is one of the most frequent picture edits. Zoner Photo Studio supports several methods to resize photos!

As computer graphics and digital photography have developed over the years, many graphics formats have been created that support digital pictures. Zoner Photo Studio handles the job of converting pictures between these various formats.
- Making Your Pictures Web-friendly
The Convert to Web JPEG function helps you prepare photos for the Web by shrinking them down to a size of your choice.
Other tools
More great graphics tools that you will want to know about.
- Adding Text to Pictures
Use the text overlay tool to add text of any size and color to your photos.
- Image Overlays
The image overlay tool lets you insert a picture within a picture.
- The Morphing Mesh
Use the Morphing Mesh tool to create a deformation (stretching or shrinking) to an object in your picture.
- Gradient Filter
The Gradient Filter tool is the software equivalent of the gradient filters that photographers use with their camera lenses. With a gradient filter, a translucent color gradient is used to add a gradual color-tone transition to a photo.
Batch processing
If you work with lots of photos, you'll appreciate what you can do with Zoner Photo Studio.
- Editing multiple photos together
There are lots of situations in which it is necessary to perform the same operation on many photographs. For example, with Zoner Photo Studio, you'll be able to work on all pictures taken under the same lighting conditions and enhance exposure and color levels (and more) at once. By selecting the photos that will be edited and using the Batch Filter dialog window, you'll be able to perform edits to all the photos with a single command.
- Multiple simultaneous edits to photos
It is often necessary to perform multiple edits to a photo. Zoner Photo Studio allows you to set up batch filters based on your specifications to execute multiple edits (in the order you define) as a single command. And, of course, the batch filter can be used on several photos at once. Being able to perform multiple edits to many photos at once makes Zoner Photo Studio particularly powerful when handling large numbers of pictures.
3. Getting organized
Zoner Photo Studio gives you control over your pictures. If you are like most people, you have collected more photos over the years than you know what to do with, and Zoner Photo Studio eliminates the frustration of having huge amounts of photos and not being able to find what you are looking for.
Metadata – info about your photos
Digital photos contain not just pictures, but also blocks of information describing those pictures. This information is called "metadata" and can include labels, descriptions, data associated with RAW and other formats, and even GPS coordinates. Zoner Photo Studio is exceptional at creating, storing and keeping track of the metadata associated with your photos.
Photo labels
A straightforward system for labeling photos is the basis for successfully managing your photos. Zoner Photo Studio makes it easy to add labels, names, dates and all sorts of information to photos - individually as well as in batches. Zoner Photo Studio offers several methods for labeling photos, so you can choose the one that's right for you.
Keeping track of your photos: searching and filters
Zoner Photo Studio makes it easy to find your photos. "Losing" a picture will be a thing of the past with the various search and filtering options available in Zoner Photo Studio.
Automatic sorting
The most common excuse given by people for not working with their pictures is that their photo archive is disorganized: "I'll get the pictures to you when I find some time to get them sorted!" Sadly, they keep putting it off, and the situation only gets worse. Zoner Photo Studio helps you get organized by automatically finding all photos and digital images on your computer and making them available to you.
Archiving your photos
When your photos have reached the limit of your computer’s hard disk, Zoner Photo Studio will help you manage external media such as CDs, DVDs, and even removable hard drives. Now you’ll be able to keep track of all of your pictures.
File manager
Zoner Photo Studio can also be used as a convenient file manager. All standard file manager features are supported.
Your photos and GPS
Zoner Photo Studio supports GPS (Global Positioning System) data with your photos. Whether your camera has built-in GPS support, or you have an external GPS device, or you enter the GPS coordinates manually, you’ll be able to link your photos to Google Earth and other sources to show maps and aerial photos of where you took the shot.
4. Sharing and publishing
The main goal for most photographers is to show their photos off to family, friends, even customers and adoring fans. Digital photography makes it easy to print, export and share photos in many different ways. Zoner Photo Studio gives you a broad selection of tools for sharing and publishing – no matter the audience!
Printing and Exporting
Printing is the most common and traditional way of sharing photos. Besides supporting standard printing of single photos, Zoner Photo Studio offers many options for printing, including calendars, contact sheets, multiple photos at once, and more.
Web galleries
Many specialized programs exist specifically for creating web galleries. But with Zoner Photo Studio you won't need an extra program to create web galleries – the functionality is included. The easy-to-navigate wizard makes the job effortless. You'll soon be creating high-quality web pages that show off your photos, and you do not need to know anything about HTML programming to do it! You'll be able to preview the prepared gallery in a web browser, save it locally to disk, or upload it right away via FTP to a website of your choice.
Burning pictures to CDs and DVDs
Zoner Photo Studio helps you burn photo CDs and DVDs without having to switch out to another program.
Several options are available:

With many transition effects, and options for sub-titles, music (including support for WAV and MP3) and presentation format (16:9 and 4:3), you'll amaze your family, friends, and colleagues with your photos running on your TV or computer.
More sharing and publishing options
Zoner Photo Studio offers even more ways for you to share your photos, including file optimization for email messages, PDF presentations, FTP transmission, and more.
5. Special Graphics Tools
Zoner Photo Studio includes tools that handle more modifications to individual photos. Zoner Photo Studio is able to combine several photos in special ways to create impressive pictures.
Panoramas
When it just won’t fit on one photo, make it a panorama. With Zoner Photo Studio you’ll see for yourself just how majestic your panorama pictures can be. Panoramic photography is increasingly popular thanks to digital photography. It is no longer necessary to use special equipment to create panorama photos; simply take several “side-by-side” photos using any digital camera, and use Zoner Photo Studio to join them into a single panoramic picture.
Zoner Photo Studio contains a specialized wizard for automatically composing horizontal and vertical panoramas. Also supported are optional manual settings. The panorama wizard makes it easy to create panoramas in just a few steps. Zoner Photo Studio automatically finds the shared areas in adjacent photos and joins them to create a seamless transition for an impressive panorama. Zoner Photo Studio can handle photos that are slightly off-center from each other, and even photos with differing exposures or white balance. This means you can even shoot without a tripod without a tripod or use a fully automatic camera without exposure locking or manual white balance settings.
3D Photos
Make your pictures standout with 3D effects! It’s easy with Zoner Photo Studio – and no special camera equipment is required.
- Turning a Photo into a 3D Picture
A photo is normally a flat representation of a 3-dimensional object. We see the environment around us through two eyes, which allows us to perceive the resulting image as 3D. Each eye sees objects from a slightly different angle than the other eye; the joining of the two “pictures” of each eye gives the sensation of depth. In this way, if you can be presented with a different picture for each eye, corresponding to what that eye would expect to see, then you will also perceive this projection – the picture - as non-flat: it will appear to you to be 3-dimensional. That’s the secret of 3D pictures: a photo that presents to each eye a slightly different, shifted, view of an object.
A composite picture like this can then be viewed through special 3D glasses with one red lens and one blue lens (or more precisely cyan): each eye perceives only the part of the photo that is not filtered out by the colored lens covering that eye. In this way, the mind perceives the image combined from both eyes as being 3-dimensional. The technical term for the composite picture is an anaglyph.
- Notes on 3D pictures
Some people with certain vision defects do not perceive 3D pictures correctly, but see them as flat instead, or just see one half. To create 3D pictures, it is necessary to have two photos of the same object, each taken from a slightly different angle (a few inches will do). Photos that were not taken in pairs with a shift in perspective cannot be used to create 3D pictures.
HDR Photography
The HDR (High Dynamic Range) functionality in Zoner Photo Studio brings out the detail often lost in difficult lighting situations.
The HDR function (High Dynamic Range) function serves for assembling multiple photos with various exposure levels into a single picture. This sometimes is called “sandwiching.” HDR function helps solve the problem of the limited exposure range in the optical sensors of digital cameras, which makes it impossible to satisfactorily capture a scene with large lighting differences, such as a dark forest in the bottom of a picture and a bright sky at the top, or a dark room where a window is flooded with light. Using ordinary techniques, some scenes cannot be captured with such wide exposure ranges in a way that seizes the details in all portions of the scene. In these situations, a photographer is typically forced to sacrifice detail in either the light areas or the dark ones.
By taking three photos, each with a different exposure levels—underexposed, overexposed, and “in the middle”— you are able to take advantage of HDR. Zoner Photo Studio is able to make use of the part of each picture that has the most detail and assembles a new picture with all the detail.
- Creating HDR Pictures
HDR pictures typically use three component photos, however, two photos can also be sufficient to capture the desired detail: standard exposure joined with an underexposed shot to reveal detail in bright areas; standard exposure joined with an overexposed shot to reveal detail in dark or shady areas; or an underexposed shot combined with an overexposed shot, depending on which extreme(s) you wish to catch.
With Zoner Photo Studio, you can also automatically obtain the necessary source files for HDR pictures by extracting them from RAW files. Thanks to their 16-bit color depth, RAW files contain a greater brightness range than normal JPEG photos.
The actual assembling of the pictures is very simple. Select the relevant shots in question and the Zoner Photo Studio will attempt to arrange them appropriately. Manual arrangement of the shots can be done by dragging and dropping them with your mouse. The HDR image is now created; it is ready to be fine-tuned using various settings. The settings for bright areas are independent from the settings for shady areas. The transition threshold (i.e. the brightness level beyond which the under/overexposed shot will begin to modify the resulting picture) can be set, as can the transition smoothness and a mask to use on the transition area, and the intensity level (the correlation between the original picture and the resulting one).
